Centre for Executive Skills, Competence & Development

The Centre for Executive Skills, Competence & Development can offer a range of continuing professional development and short courses to organisations and individuals. All courses are taught by specialist academics and experienced practitioners. The centre can offer flexible delivery for corporate customers and our major programmes can be delivered at the Institute, on your site, or elsewhere, such as specialist training venues or hotels. Everyone who joins one of our programmes can have access to the Azaiki Public Library facilities, to support their studies. The centre’s short courses cover in finance, marketing, human resources, management, SMEs, and a host of other. The centre runs workshops and other learning events – throughout the year we run a variety of, mainly, evening events incorporating training, talks, networking, knowledge exchange and Continuing Professional Development opportunities.

Centre for Intelligence, Security Studies & Public Safety

The Centre for Intelligence, Security Studies & Public Safety is based in the Department of Forensic Sciences in the School of Applied Sciences. The main goal of the Centre is to facilitate and promote the study of intelligence, national security and issues relating to public safety. The Centre will host regular seminars on the role and effectiveness of intelligence machinery in working to combat the threats pose by militancy and insurgency in Nigeria, and challenge our understanding of the contemporary security and intelligence environment in Nigerian democracy. The centre will offer students an innovative programme in intelligence and security studies, which has a strong practice-oriented content prioritising the development of strong analytical skills and a knowledge base to international levels of excellence.

Centre for Academic Leadership, Teaching & Learning Competence

The Centre for Academic Leadership, Teaching & Learning Competence is located within the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning in the School of Education and Professional Studies. The centre aims to support and facilitate research and teaching excellence by the academic community – from doctoral students and research associates to lecturers and professorial staff. The Centre explores, promotes, and supports excellence in teaching, with diverse technologies, at IST and the wider higher education community. The Centre also can offer support and leadership, advice and guidance relating to all aspects of learning, teaching and assessment at IST and the wider higher education community. The curriculum will cover a range of important and practical subjects including Leadership Development, Organizational Dynamics, Communication, Academic Employment Issues, Strategic Management, Budgeting, Conflict Resolution, and Organizational Change.

Centre for Quality Assurance in Higher Education

The Centre for Academic Leadership, Teaching & Learning Competence is based within the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning in the School of Education and Professional Studies.

The mission of the Centre is to offer short courses which promote the quality of teaching and research at higher education in Nigeria. The Centre will draw upon the knowledge and experience of leading local and international academics to deliver courses, seminars and workshops on Quality Assurance in higher education in Nigeria.

Centre for School Leadership & Administrators

The Centre for School Leadership & Administrators is based within the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning in the School of Education and Professional Studies. The centre believes that that there is a strong causal relationship between the quality of school leadership and successful outcomes for school children. The centre will thrive to improve the support and development of educators, so they are can continue to provide a high level of education, to students, throughout Bayelsa State, Nigeria and beyond.

Centre for Entrepreneurial Innovation and Research

The Centre for School Leadership & Administrators is a research centre within the Department of Small Business, Entrepreneurship & Innovation of the Delta Business School. The mission of the centre is to promote the study of developments in entrepreneurship and innovation and research in the Nigerian context as well as by enhancing our understanding of contemporary developments in entrepreneurship and innovation. The centre’s work and research will focus around the development of enterprise and entrepreneurial skills, innovation and understanding of the commercialisation of research. The centre believes that entrepreneurship and innovation are vital to Nigeria’s economic wealth creation.

Centre for Business Analytics

The Centre for Business Analytics is a research centre within the Delta Business School. The CBA is a an interdisciplinary research and knowledge transfer centre with a focus on developing fresh approaches to working with large and complex data sets and translating it into potential solutions through analytics tools and techniques to harness the power of big data. Business analytics is a strategic tool for business executives, especially in the use of analytics for decision making. CBA expert-academics will businesses to transform data into insights and that will result sustainable competitive advantage. The CBA will bring together businesses and scientific research to develop, disseminate and exploit business analytics knowledge and applications.

Centre for Youth Employment & Job Creation

The Centre for Youth Employment & Job Creation is a research and consultancy centre within the Department of Small Business, Entrepreneurship & Innovation of the Delta Business School.

The centre is offers graduate unemployment-bursting services to state and federal governments through innovative job creation packages such as the Public Sector Employment Generation Scheme (PSEGS) and Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurial Training Scheme (YEETS). These schemes are designed to create employment/job opportunities for the Nigerian youths.

Centre for Co-ordinated Response to Critical Situations

The Centre for Co-ordinated Response to Critical Situations is based within the Department of Forensic Sciences in the School of Applied Sciences. The mission of the centre is to develop and build capacity in the area of emergency response. To this end, the centre will offer training courses to emergency personnel and other stakeholders to be able to respond critical situations adequately and confidently.

Centre for Communication Skills for Hospital Nurses and Doctors

Centre for Communication Skills for Hospital Nurses and Doctors is located in the Department of Education & Lifelong Learning in the School of Education and Professional Studies. The Centre for Communication Skills for Hospital Nurses and Doctors provides training courses that are designed to assist nurses and doctors develop nursing and clinical competency skills, critical thinking skills and communication skills. To this end, the centre will support clinical and communication skills education in health and social care settings.

Centre for the Delivery & Maintenance of Public Infrastructural Projects

The Centre for the Delivery & Maintenance of Public Infrastructural Projects is located in the Department of Education & Lifelong Learning School of Education & Professional Studies. The Centre for the Delivery & Maintenance of Public Infrastructural Projects offers courses and consultancy in best practice in public project delivery and maintenance mechanisms through on-site workshops, classes and off-site customised training.
